By
day I am the President and co-founder of
Overdrive Underground (ODU.FM), and Andromeda
Recordings. With my husband Stack we're blessed
to own and operate the fastest growing internet
radio station in the Chicago area, and from
there Andromeda Recordings spurred off to bring
our love of independent artists and their
talents to the world. So it would seem, that
with all that going on in my life I wouldn't
have time to create or have time to sing? Well -
I guess when you love something as I do, you
find time for your first love.
I started singing professionally with a Heart
Tribute band called Beggar's Velvet. We toured
the Chicago bar scene and had a great time
playing the big clubs and festivals in the
Midwest. In 1986 my husband and I did a solo
release called Chronyc Vyrtue - For Better or
Worse. A release that has still to this day
remained unreleased by a label. Which is why
Andromeda Recordings was a must. We felt we
needed to be able to ensure that anyone who
loved their music enough to try to share it with
the world, deserved to be heard.
Although rock has always been my first love, in 2006 when ODU decided to
branch off into the EDM world with a show called
Tranceparency, I had the honor of meeting my
good friend Robert Vadney. Robby became ODU's
first resident Dj. One day while goofing about
on MSN with Robby, he asked if I wanted to sing
a track with him? Seeing that my vocal chords
had been on a hiatus for 8 years, naturally I
was reluctant, but with a little coercing from
my buddy, World On Mute was born and the rest is
history. Although not all of the lyrics that was
written for the track were used, Robby omitted a
couple of lines that I wrote and sang for the
song... :P It became a launching pad for an
entirely new love and a genre that I had known
little about before that.
From there I was introduced to Oliver Carr,
Victor Orange, and became friends with Ahmet
Atasever, Mixed Spirit, Angel Ace, and many
others too numerous to mention them all right
now. (sorry guys) My world of music expanded in
a very short amount of time and is now my
favorite way to spend every free moment I can
muster. Now I am producing my own music under
the names Essence and Sonus, and will be working
on a solo album to come out in the near future
on Andromeda Recordings, of course. ;)
Over the past two years I have had the privilege
to work with some amazing artists and will
hopefully continue to do so. I have a very
simple philosophy when it comes to my "career"
in this business... Although it may be nice to
see yourself on top of your game, if its a game
you wish to play, go buy a monopoly board and
have at it. Life is too short, and to climb your
way to the top on the backs of others will bring
a very fast fall when you are found out about.
So make sure that you treat people with the
respect you feel you deserve, and always be
yourself. A transparent soul will outshine the
most brightest star. I don't fear my rise or my
lack of success in the industry because its not
a living that I'm looking to make (although it
would be nice), but I am looking to enjoy myself
and have fun sharing what I create and write.
When people ask me where I see myself and my
career in a couple of years I simply say,
wherever it leads me, I follow along. If most
people felt the same I think this place we call
music would be a better place to be. So for
those of you who wondered who I am, this is me.
You will never get a clouded version of the
truth from me, I will always be honest and have
no fear of saying what I feel in fear that my
career will be thwarted by someone I pissed off
or made angry enough to take me down. To be
honest, if I can't be myself then all that I am
and all of this is a waste of time. I have
little respect for users, and people that will
put on a mask and pretend to be something they
are not for personal gain. Remember there is
always someone that knows you well, and
eventually the truth comes out. So always be
honest, and you'll never have to remember who
you lied to. :P
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me and
reading this long drawn out bio. I appreciate
all the support and love I've received over the
past two years from my family both ADR and ODU.
You guys make me smile, and I'm very happy to know
you and call you my friends. |
